Bahrain, Gcc & Mena Regions

Bahrain is business friendly and widely recognised as the freest economy in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) (comprising Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) (comprising the GCC and Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordon, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen) region.

Many multi-national companies (American Express, DHL, Gulf Air, JP Morgan Chase, Kraft and Microsoft) have already realised the potential of Bahrain as a gateway into the GCC and MENA region. Bahrain also has the regions most respected financial regulator, the Bahrain Monetary Authority (BMA), and is the regional base for many international banks.

Bahrain has a stable political/economic platform, a strong legal system based on the British model, the lowest taxation levels in the MENA and lowest cost of living and business establishment in the GCC. It also has the infrastructure to handle current and future economic growth, and it’s in the right location to easily service much of the GCC and MENA region.

The GCC and MENA is a broad region with a population about the size of the European Union. This is a unique region, it combines many wealthy nations, most of which have economies which are rapidly growing, have very young demographics, quickly developing global economic influence, and developing economic policies.

Many multi-national businesses see the growth potential of the GCC and MENA region and have pushed for a market share, particularly in the larger economies, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Harbour Investment focuses on opportunities in the GCC and MENA region using Bahrain as its launching point. Bahrain is connected to Saudi Arabia by a bridge (two thirds of the population is within a five hour drive from Bahrain) and is in the process of constructing a bridge to connect it to the world’s wealthiest nation per capita, Qatar.

Bahrain has significant influence in the GCC and MENA region with trade agreements with about 30 countries and free-trade agreements with the five Gulf neighbours who are part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Indeed, Bahrain with its liberal and well regulated banking market will benefit greatly from the planned monetary union between Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

This small island nation is also the only Gulf state to have a free trade agreement with the United States.
